Some stack for weight some for larger pieces. I say coins are more recognizable and because of that people are more prone to trust them. Coins are also easier to carry in a pinch. I know I'm coming from a prepper grid collapse standpoint but it's becoming evident that is where we are going down the line. Depending on where you live tax laws can also be a big deal pic related.

As for myself I am very diversified in my stack. I have antique jewelry, numinastic coinage, a plethora of random rounds, a bunch of silver eagles, maples and lizzies, at least 40 oz in 5 oz bars and 40 oz in 10 oz bars. Odds and ends vicambi gram bars, platinum grams and most of my gold is fractional too. Holding weight is more important if you're worried about the bottom line. You can also hide certain things like jewelry and pure silver and gold wire amongst the clutter of your environment without people stealing it. Just a trick but you can put your real silver and mix it with a bunch of silver plastic nonsense and people will leave it alone. Like a fake treasure prop box or your kid's' favorite Hess truck collection. I employ all these tactics and even keep 100 oz of silver in a prop nest down the road, and a dozen in a bee hive just outside my property. Just get creative with it, diversify or die. Now more than ever though, get as much silver as you can. I very much doubt we will be able to get physical silver soon. Just a hunch

IMO large metal bars are better for institutional investors or professionals. It's easier to liquidate one or two ounces at a LCS or in your favorite SHTF wet dream. Even if the value of PMs collapse, the face value at least guarantees it can be useful for making purchases. As always, do what you want. Just my two cents.

2nd slurp of the day is picrel; a 1580's Henri III 1/4 Ecu (9.5g). I got it for 18 bux. Far less impressive than the kopecks one but still correct.

Special mention to the 5 + 10ct 1853 MA who are rare enough to pay for twice over the price i paid for the lot.

The main value item here is the 2 Francs Napoleon An 13A (revolutionary calendar = 1804). Not in the best shape, but this kind of coin is getting really hard to find.

Prices are all over the place and quality too.
The prices proposed by coin dealers are beyond scam tiers. I've seen single capsules sold for $1+/ea whereas you can find x100 capsules with foam for 10 bux on amazon, and it's the exact same shit for 1/10th of the cost.

Depends on the coins, the date, the number minted, the design... There aren't generic coins per say (unless you meant rounds). US constitutional is rather expensive compared to most European ones.
Depends on the purity too. Nobody really wants .500 or .450 crap for example so you can get them below spot pretty much all the time.

Also depends where do you want to buy them from. Don't expect any killer deal at your LCS.

Ebay is both the place with the best and shittiest deal. I think it's a great idea for you to lurk around and see how things are going there. And most important : to find the keywords/search parameters who will allow you to see the under-the-radar deals.
Personally my average for constitutional is 35/45% below spot on ebay. It takes some practice and some time digging for the good stuff, and ofc you wont win the majority of auctions you bet over, but the time spent is quickly paid for once you get used to it.

Egay: purchased several items off there. Best Buy was a 2RM coin in good condition. The silver lady fortuna 1oz pamp bar is overpriced no matter where it’s purchased, but it was a gift for a ladyfren. I did purchase a 1915 1 ducat Austrian gold coin listed as BU. Front was flawless, back had a very noticeable deep gouge… not going to buy any gold from coinshop listing ever again on egay

Sure, here was my latest acquisition. I've got 3x Gros Tournois from Louis IX the Saint (circa 1220) and 2 others from Philippe IV the Fair (1280) with the same design, only the name is changing. The 2 basedest kings who ever walked this earth.

Absolutely awesome those are sweet coins, you should post a group pic of your old hammered silvers. With their impressive diameter relative to weight and unique aesthetic medieval coins like those are really appealing, I kinda want to build cheap inventory then try setting up and selling to nerds at "Renaissance Fair" LARP festivals. They're not usually serious numismatists but I bet that kind of clientele would be very interested in genuine coins and artifacts.

What is dis? Never heard about those festivals but it seems like a great idea because people not familiar with numismatics often tend to think old stuff is worth millions. When i show to my close frens my collection of medieval/roman/greek stuff and ask them how much they think they are worth they always give me retarded numbers. This is especially true with roman coinage. Then when i tell them i got this or that antoninianus for 3 bux they refuse to believe it kek.
You probably experienced this many times already.

If you wanna delve into medieval stuff and need some coins you only can find over here, don't hesitate if i can be of any use (to proxy buy, send it oversea...).
I'm not sure how familiar you are with those, but they tend to be pretty expensive in good condition in my experience. What did you have in mind by "cheap inventory" for example?

My thoughts about them being ripe and eager clientele are the same. Everyone at a Renaissance fair already appreciates history and enjoys things made like they were centuries ago but there aren't any actual authentic artifacts from back then at the fairs so they'd probably coom violently at the thought of being able to get genuine ancient and medieval coins in the $5-30 price range. I've got tons of ancients and have bought bulk lots of Russian wire money kopeks and medieval Hungarian denars that cost a few bucks or less each that they'd like. Lots of common circulated English hammered silver coins are easily available cheap too and would probably be most popular and relevant to all the Shakespearean and Elizabethan-era nerds hat gravitate to RenFairs. Got tons of ancient and medieval arrowheads and weaponry that would surely appeal to the combat reenactors and fans too. I think one could make an easy 5-10x flipping cheapies to those people, and they'd probably be way more excited about it than any normal jaded coin or artifact collector who would be less impressed by such common material.

I'm a bit confused. This store sells sliver coins titled "1 oz". But in the technical details they specify "1 Troy oz". Now, a quick Google search reveals that 1 Troy oz = 1.097 standard oz. That is 10% more than a regular oz.

It probably should, but unless adhering to the metric gram/kg system then it's understood that the Troy weight measurement system is the industry standard for PMs in the western world (Chang likes 37.5g Taels, Ranjeet likes 11.66g Tolas, etc). No one uses the standard avoirdupois system for PMs unless they're trying to scam someone, for example some jews on eBay have listings titled like "1 full ounce of .900 constitutional silver coins" but in the fine print you see they're selling by the 28.35g Avdp. ounce instead of 31.1g.

Yep you'll do fine anon, unless you already know your way around the world of antiques and know where and how to slurp good deals quickly and efficiently then the learning curve would probably be too daunting. A few anons have a natural knack for it but apparently it's not easy for most people. Definitely still keep an eye open for potential deals though, I haven't found much Aussie silver but I recently picked up 6 rare c.1860 sterling spoons made in New Zealand (unmonogrammed to boot!) in a batch for around $10/ozt asw, in the realm of NZ silversmiths 1860 is really early so the collector value is multiples of melt.

That's just one of many batches I've gotten refined and returned. Besides costing me way less than spot, those hand-pours are quite popular so they enjoy a resale premium appreciably higher than mass-produced cast or extruded bars, though I like having those on hand too. One problem with things like widely recognized Engelhards is the fact that they're known to be counterfeited or drilled out and filled with Molybdenum or Lead, there are no fake PG&G pours though so stackers who know what they're doing often prefer and trust them more.

They are an accredited refinery and only make .999+ bullion. You can have them make bars of whatever weight you want (within reason) so whether you're a 1oz pragmatist, a kilo autist or a 4oz chad you can stack whatever you love most.

Thanks fren, the kilos and little 1oz bars are my favorites. Fondling a handful of those compact round-edged ounces feels awesome, they clink very nicely and flow smoothly through the hand unlike sharp-edged pressed rounds and bars. It's hard to articulate but they feel much more "authentic", like they're actually meant to be held and circulated, than sharp shiny mass produced bullion that stays hidden away in tubes lest they get scuffed or tarnished. 10/10 would recommend refining grandma's out-of-fashion silverware set

this thesis is flawed for a couple reasons:
1. silver is too scarce to replace fiat, that's not going to happen
2. silver can't be inflated, so that's another huge reason not to monetize it
3. nobody wants to make millionaires out of silver stackers at the expense of the vast majority of people that don't stack
4. if it were remonetized the very first step would be outlawing private ownership and taking everyone's stacks.
5. in the event it became that scarce, we'd just mine every silver deposit in the world, no matter how poor or disseminated, resulting in immediate and exponential growth of supply
6. the alternative is dollars still exist, but inflate to the point where silver is worth tens or hundreds of thousands of dollars per ounce, but then you get paid tens or hundreds of thousands of dollars per hour, and everything now costs tens of thousands of dollars, including bread and gasoline and such.

basically there's no possible outcome where a few pounds of silver buys you the equivalent of millions of dollars today, simply because there's plenty of it in the ground and it costs far less than a million dollars per pound to mine.

I've had this same thought too. I hope silver decouples from the USD value and goes higher than it's current pace, but you've described the worst case scenario that I haven't been able to put into text so far.

that's an ass number, an estimate based on AISC of mines in 2 major silver districts in the US. But we didn't open the mines when silver hit $30 in 2012 because back then we needed $50 per ounce to turn a profit. Mining has become more mechanized even since 2012, but labor costs have gone way up. So the current number I hear around town is $75 sustained and the mines re-open. They've only been shut down twice, from 1895-1905, and from 1995- now.

I saw this business model in action when I went to Knott's Berry Farm a few years back. The curio shop in the ghost town section had common antique saloon tokens that you can pick up on ebay for $35 listed at $350 each. Miner's carbide lamps worth about $50 listed for $600. Other common mining tools listed at 10x the going rate. I asked if they sold stuff like that and they said it sold fairly well. A few buyers every month.

I was going to try it with the tourists in my area but ended up just selling to local antique and souvenir shops for 2-10x what I paid on ebay. I unloaded a pile of antiques, a lot of it off ebay, for them to sell to tourists. All at a good profit. It sold well enough I still have store owners emailing me every month asking if I can get more.

The thought did cross my mind that if there are trained archaeologist soibois in attendance they might start crying about the idea of anyone besides the dusty basements of museums possessing artifacts, but if they raise a self-righteous stink about it I would just point them to sources like Heritage Auctions or CNG and invite them to focus their Quixotic cuckery there. I would only have common stuff for sale anyway so in the unlikely event that any such drama arose nothing important would be at risk, but unlike in Italy or Turkey where dealing in coins/artifacts might cause you problems the US doesn't really care about anything besides Native American artifacts looted illegally from burial mounds or stolen and smuggled antiquities worth enough to get the attention of the glowbots, no one cares about common sub-$1000 material.

That's what I have. I don't know enough to differentiate between that and the Walmart one. I bought 5 at $60/ea, 1 at $70 and these 4 at $80/ea for a nice even 10 total in my stack. 0.6g of gold and 2.4g of silver per piece w/ numismatic value just makes sense to me for the cost.

It worked for me for a while. I've stopped doing it because I exhausted ebay's supply of items specific to my town, and my buying spree drove prices up 10x and more on ebay.
One example, a common victorian souvenir medal from my town that sold for $30 in 2019 now sells regularly for almost $400 on ebay. I didn't bid prices that high, but I did dry up supply almost completely by buying every single one that came up for years straight.

not a problem with really common stuff like mining memorabilia, but for rare stuff that happened.

She is. She's 7 or 8 now and finally obedient. Smart dog, she understands more words than every other dog my parents had, but she's a "free spirit" as my mom puts it. She was getting too aggressive w/ my cat, and my ex-GF who's allergic moved out so my mom asked if I wanted to take her and I immediately said yes. Her and I bonded instantly when we adopted her and her brother so she's like THEE cat for me.

Are you talking about the ice palace or 1879er medal/fob things you've posted before? Those are some impressive gains, I'm sure you cornering the market was a big factor but maybe there's new blood crowding into the scene too? Hopefully you already finished that collection and aren't being forced to pay through the nose now! It's not the same but since I started collecting ancient sling bullets the interest/competition has gotten ridiculous, all of these would have been $40-100 in 2018 but several rich collectors have blown it up. It's frustrating but I have pieces far better than the $800 Alexander bullet that those guys would kill for which is somewhat consoling. I can't really compete directly but my man in Cyprus has been detecting and acquiring more rarities, I was basically his only serious p2p buyer and he always sold delightfully cheap so unless someone "floods" the market with several duplicates I will need to bypass eBay/Biddr to collect more without breaking the bank.

This is true, but there are bars out there that collectors pay a pretty penny for, Englehard being one of them. Whenever a bank fails now, I look to see if any bullion was produced by that bank. Collectors also go for bars that came from now dried up silver mines. I for one am stacking strickly for weight now, and have decided to go with smaller bars.

how much silver can be mined depends on PRICE

at current prices, almost none of it is worth mining. If the price goes way up, that changes instantly. We go from a few million tons worth mining to tens or hundreds of millions at a higher price.

reserves are based on price, not the presence of metal in the ground.

My town is sitting on hundreds of thousands of tons of silver that is not worth mining at current prices, and is not counted as reserves because the price is too low. My town is not unique, there are dozens like it.

I've seen it dozens of times. Price goes up and we suddenly "find" more oil, or copper, or gold, or whatever. It wasn't lost, we knew it was there. We just didn't count it because it wasn't economical to mine at former prices.

Not at current price, at current demand. There is only so much silver, and only so much that we are able to mine. When price ends up mooning, that's when countries take possession of the silver mines, and my guess is that it becomes more valuable. Once those mines are depleted, or cost for extraction becomes prohibitive, the reserves will be held by world governments, and will be used as one of many commodities to back the currency that will replace the US dollar.

M855 tumbles like 5.45x39mm 7n6. But 5.45 is far less logistically feasible to purchase on account of the Russian chimpout since 2022. Also M855 isn't AP, it can go through a Soviet era steel brain bucket at 600m, but M193 pierces armor better actually. See AR500 plate vs M193 out of a 20" barrel.

I wouldn't. Dutch loading should be out of desperation not necessity. M855 is less accurate than M193 on account of the steel core not always being 100% centered in the bullet of the cartridge. I want every round to perform exactly the same in the mag save for a tracer or two at the end of you have that luxury to see and know when you're low and out. That is traditionally for rifles that lack bolt hold open like AKs or G3 derivatives for example.

OK so those Nosler bullets are OTM, but they have a thinner jacket than Sierra MatchKings used for MK262.

Not that I'd ever question your prodigious expertise, but even if I wanted to I couldn't argue with your point about them ruling from the shadows because I've never even heard of the Kadoorie family before. I research everything I buy. From what I remember the boat tails shoot flatter and the hollow points ensure maximum damage without the penetration.

Nope. OTM stabilizes the round making it more accurate, they actually don't expand they fragment. The military can't use hollow pointpoint ammo because of international treaties.

Considering the tactics used by the jews to undermine China back during the XIXth c. via opiods, one thing i really want to know are the names behind the development and export of fentanyl and it's precursors from China targeting the US white populations.

I wouldn't be surprised if the jews pulled the exact same trick and simply swapped the target. I lived in China for few months years ago, the government have cops every 2 meters and have spies everywhere, they always have been going extra hard on any drug dealers (basically a bullet in the cranium). It's impossible to believe chinks can freely export fentanyl, which is extremely complicated and dangerous to produce, without some kind of agreement with the government.
Notice how there are zero fent related overdose in China, to me it's clear there is a deal between pharma groups and the CCP to voluntarily poison the US/Canada.
And it reeks of jewry, i can't prove it yet but they probably are behind it. Too perfect of a timing when jewish politicians in the US pushed for legalization of all drugs right when fent started flooding the streets.
